Youth Red Cross Orientation Programme

A One-Day Orientation Programme for Youth Red Cross (YRC) Programme Officers was organised by the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Dakshina Kannada District Branch, in association with Youth Red Cross, Mangalore University, on 2 September 2026 at Prerana Auditorium, IRCS Centenary Building, Mangalore. Ms. Melicia Shainy D'Souza, Speech-Language Pathologist, Grade I, and Ms. Hadline Rechael Noronha, Audiologist, Grade I, from Father Muller’s Hospital ( participated in the programme. The programme commenced with a welcome note and introduction by Ms. Gayathri, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, Presidential Address by Sri CA Shantharam Shetty, and Inaugural Address by Dr. Gananath Shetty Yekkar. The inaugural session concluded with the Vote of Thanks by Dr. Satish Kumar Shetty, Secretary, IRCS, Dakshina Kannada.

The orientation included informative sessions on “Engaging Youth in Humanitarian Services” by Dr. Sumana Bolar and “Rules and Responsibilities of YRC Programme Officers” by Dr. Gananath Shetty Yekkar. The sessions focused on promoting youth participation in humanitarian and community-service activities, understanding the responsibilities of Programme Officers, and effectively planning and implementing YRC activities. An interactive session on feedback, planning and coordination, facilitated by Ms. Gayathri and the Nodal Officers, provided an opportunity for participants to share ideas, clarify queries and discuss strategies for strengthening YRC activities in their respective institutions.

The programme was informative and provided valuable insights into the effective functioning of Youth Red Cross units and the role of Programme Officers in engaging students in meaningful humanitarian and social-service activities. The orientation concluded with the feedback, valedictory session and certificate distribution, marking the successful completion of the programme.
