History

Father Muller College (Speech and Hearing), part of the Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI), is a Christian Religious Minority Educational Institute under the Catholic Diocese of Mangalore, which oversees over 200 educational establishments. The Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology diagnostic unit within FMCI has been operational for over four decades, focusing on patient welfare. This unit includes three divisions: Audiology, Speech Diagnostics, and Speech Therapy. Audiology addresses hearing and balance issues, while Speech Diagnostics and Therapy assess and rehabilitate speech, language, and swallowing disorders.

In 2007, the unit launched a full-time bachelor's program in Speech and Hearing, followed by postgraduate programs in 2020 for Master's degrees in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. With extensive experience, the Department of Speech and Hearing has focused on personnel development, resulting in a four-year Bachelor's program and a two-year postgraduate program, culminating in the B.ASLP, M.Sc. in Audiology (M.Sc. AUD), and M.Sc. in Speech-Language Pathology (M.Sc. SLP). These programs are affiliated with Mangalore University and accredited by the Rehabilitation Council of India.

The college prides itself on experienced educators and advanced laboratories dedicated to assessing and rehabilitating speech and hearing impairments. It aims to nurture top-tier professionals capable of evaluating and treating hearing, balance, speech, language, and swallowing disorders.
