Medical Screening Camp at Mahatma Gandhi Centenary Higher Primary School, Bondel, Mangaluru

The Department of Speech and Hearing, in association with the Departments of General Medicine and Ophthalmology, Father Muller Hospital, organised a Medical Screening Camp at Mahatma Gandhi Centenary Higher Primary School, Bondel, Mangaluru, on Tuesday, 28 July 2026.

The multidisciplinary camp team comprised doctors and healthcare professionals from the Departments of General Medicine, Ophthalmology, and Speech and Hearing, ensuring comprehensive health screening services for the school children.

A total of 191 students participated in the camp and benefited from the healthcare services provided. All 191 students underwent speech and hearing screening as part of the comprehensive medical evaluation.

The Speech and Hearing team included:

·         Ms. Hadline Rechael Noronha – Audiologist Grade I

·         Ms. Mariyam – Speech Postgraduate

·         Ms. Anice – Intern

Each student underwent a systematic screening procedure, which included:

·         Detailed case history

·         Otoscopic examination

·         Screening audiometry

·         Speech screening

Students who did not pass the hearing and/or speech screening were provided with a camp referral card and were counselled to undergo a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation at Father Muller Hospital for further assessment, diagnosis, and appropriate management.

The camp successfully facilitated the early identification of speech, language, and hearing concerns among school children while promoting awareness regarding timely intervention and rehabilitation. Such outreach programmes reflect the institution's commitment to community health, preventive care, and early detection of communication disorders.
