The World Hearing Day celebration was held on 3rd March 2026 at 9:00 AM in the Patient Waiting Area near the Reception at Father Muller Medical College Hospital (FMMCH). The World Health Organization observes World Hearing Day on March 3rd every year to raise global awareness about the importance of hearing care. The theme for this year, “From communities to classrooms: Hearing care for all children,” highlighted the need for early identification and timely intervention for childhood hearing loss.
The program commenced with a prayer song, followed by the welcome address delivered by Dr. Prashasthi P. Poovaiah, In-charge of the Department of Audiology. On this occasion, the Director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions, Rev. Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo, emphasized the significance of early detection and timely management of hearing loss, noting its vital role in the speech, language, academic, and social development of children.
Dr. Sudhir Prabhu, Head of the Department of Community Medicine and the Chief Guest for the program, highlighted the importance of greater societal acceptance and inclusion of children with hearing impairment. During the event, the winners of the REELS competition conducted among the colleges of Father Muller Charitable Institutions were also announced. The first prize was awarded to the 2nd year Postgraduate (Audiology) students, while the second prize was secured by the 3rd year undergraduate (B. ASLP) students.
The program concluded with the institutional anthem. Following the inauguration, visitors and patients were encouraged to view the exhibition materials displayed on speech and hearing awareness. In addition, free hearing screening services were provided at OPD No. 67.
